How to avoid internet Fraud

Posted by Ana Castillo on Thursday, August 20, 2015, In : Blog
There are lots of sites in the internet that seem to be very promising but instead are fraudulent and misleading. Speaking from experience, I can say that even a job post at a website that is trustworthy can lead you to be a victim of scamming. Through my bad experiences in the past few years I also learned that there are sites that help you detect how trustworthy a page is. These are Scamadviser and the Rip off report.
But there are a few things you should keep in mind in this crazy interne...

City Dove

Posted by Ana Castillo on Sunday, July 26, 2015, In : Blog

There are tags underneath our membranes. Although our mind controls the way our body behaves, we tend to become a slave to it. As I grow older, I continually notice that everyday is at war, against our conscious. Most people don’t realize how amazing it is that we can constantly work against our desires to accomplish what we need to get done.

In a matter of days, you can change your personality and the whole world will notice. Experience helps you develop some ...

Profile Story: Professor Anupama Kapse

Posted by Ana Castillo on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, In : News

“That’s a very important line, pay attention to that,” said Queens College professor Anupama Kapse.

Her Silent and early sound era class was set up in a semi circle as they watched 7th heaven, a 1927 Parisian film, she encouraged students to interpret the film.

Kapse’s film classes have served as tools to the publications she’s put out in past years due to the many things that she has learned from different students.

By Ana Castillo          March 9, 2015

There are many things to encounter when moving to Ghana from the United States but there is one unusual question that an African American woman has to ask herself, how do you ask an African man to use a condom?

One of the most controversial episodes of the online web series “An African City” is “Condom Etiquette” in which the show’s creator touches upon the issues of HIV and a man’s inability to pro...

First Conversations

Posted by Ana Castillo on Thursday, January 15, 2015, In : Blog

Today, I was finally able to have a conversation with my mother after having my tongue literally tied for the past 5 days due to my tonsillectomy. Ever since my uncle passed away last year, we have felt so much different about going back home. She told me she spoke to my aunt today only to be more disappointed about how troublesome our old neighborhood has become along with the people.

I find myself having this battle everyday. When I was in High School and my early stages of living in Americ...

Field of flowers
Flowers of love
Love of lust
Lust for him
Him being wrong
Wrong for me
Standing.
I see the past.
Past voices.
Voices that speak.
Speak loud and scream
Scream to forget
Forget those reflected
Reflected in the mirror.
Mirror of imagination
Imagination of the young
Young and innocent
Innocent and unaware
Unaware of the world.
World of evil
Standing
Tears pouring down
Down on lost trust
Trust to not break promises
Promises that are consumed
Consumed with lies

On October 12th of the past month, I was given the opportunity to take part in the Cure Search for Children's Cancer walk. I was asked to do something I never do, Dress up!.
So for this lovely afternoon event, I had the opportunity to hear the voices of young children who have survived cancer and of those who have lost their dearest friends to cancer. It is important to recognize one thing, everyone in this world is in need of help in many different ways. Even if you don't have the money ...

Homemade Meal Challenge!

Posted by Ana Castillo on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, In : Food

In an effort to get myself out of the habit of eating in the streets and increasing my skills in cooking I decided to make a new challenge (And of course your welcome to follow). I will find 7 recipes, one for each day of the week, and it will either be a breakfast, lunch or dinner meal. I will write all ingredients and instructions in a brand new journal and at the end of each write a shopping list for the weekend. This way each day I will make sure each meal gets done and by the end of the ...

Well, before I embarked on my trip, I was doing some research to finally get rid of my acne scars, which have been haunting me since high school. Dry Hair Repair

Although since going natural two-years ago my hair has improved significantly, there is still one problem that remains; dryness. If your hair is naturally curly, then you know exactly what I'm talking about. Curly hair lacks a lot of moisture and you must always keep it hydrated by using the right products that contain no sulfate or other damaging ingredients. Shopping for hair products is like shopping for food at the market, you should ALWAYS read the label.

Who are you?
Why do you follow me?
Wake when I awake
But leave when I sleep

Are you the protagonist of my dreams?
I cannot see me when I close my eyes
And Enter this Nocturnal world.
I see you, dark shadow
Carrying my emotions

Are you observing my actions?
Punishing me for the wrongs.
Reminding the sorrows to coexist with Happiness.
You are.
Always there beside me.

I never startled at your existence
Only the first time I met you.

Green Smoothie

My 3rd Green Smoothie this week.

I’m getting myself back on track, its time to resume my fitness.

For this I used:

1/2 a Mango
1 handful of spinach
1 large Banana
2 tablespoons of Yogurt
1/2 cup of SoyMilk

And just blend away.

This is so delicious, I’m more fond of putting spinach in my smoothies than Kale but I still do both!

Plantain Chips

My new Favorite Snack.
I always buy these at the Grocery store when I get home from School or before work. Instead of spending a dollar on a small bag I decided to just do it myself.
I bought a couple of plantains and threw in a pinch of salt and voila, Plantain chips.

If you want to make these yourself make sure you slice them very thin.
You can put them in a zip log bag and eat them on the go or have them as a snack after a long day.

Someone New

Posted by Ana Castillo on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, In : Poetry

Why are we slaves to our subconscious?

As children, we are given love.

We breathe love and celebrate it

When we grow older, we open our hearts to another.

Why does our first love mark the end of our feel of love?

As our hearts become tainted with agony,

We replace that initial careless feeling with the pain.

When we recover, we trust less.

How can you ever love again?

Is it possible for you to remember the first feel of love?

The frightful beating of your...

Why Donna Summer is and Iconic Figure

I have been fan of Donna Summer since my youth and till this day it is pretty heartbreaking for me how her death went unnoticed. Now don't get me wrong, I love Whitney, her voice is amazing beyond imaginable, I can't even begin to picture how amazing she'd sound live, but Donna was amazing as wel...

My question is, what makes these men and all the others worth mentioning? And even more now that one of the most searched for criminal, el chapo, is put behind bars.

I Missed You...

Posted by Ana Castillo on Sunday, January 12, 2014, In : Poetry
I wouldn't dwell on the past,
unless I wanted you here present.
The past was good.
It was all joy
I was confused, felt like a toy
Mesmerized.
Spoke enough, then too much,

You live, learn, accept.
Your gone, now back.
Then gone, and back.
Forgive me but you must stay.
I must taste your lips again.
Your the poison that I picked,
I wish to bleed its joyous pain.

To not be sane, or ready.
Would be a great mistake,
Endeavored in your being, I'd
Love to have thee.

My army consisted of two warriors
They would stand side by side no matter what
No matter how much blood was spilled
No matter how much... Bodies were killed
One body would return home
One body will live to tell, and pass it all on to the future

I was 5 years old
When she took me to her boyfriend's house
she went to the back with him
I was in the living room
I was 5 years old.

Then she got married, sort off.
To another man, I guess.
But can you really call him a man?

I was 20 years old.
He spoke to me about love.
Told me I was perfect.
But in saying I was perfect, I could only be his.
I was 20 years old.

The memory triggered.
 5 years old again.
She was screaming, begging him to stop.
Telling him to let go.
I was standing, paralyzed.

I Remember,

Those nights I'd think I would never let go.

When his heart was the resident in the presidential suite of my heart.

When my thoughts raced like horse's adrenaline at the end of a race.

I was stranded, I was one, I was lonely.

There's no greater pain, than falling in love.

Specially when that person never even dated you.

They become the dreams you don't want to wake up from.

The reason you don't finish your meals.

The streak of motivation when you just can't seem to keep going.

But then they leave.

I'm a girl, Men refer to me as a whore. The only way to bring attention to the words that come out my mouth is by leaving little to the imagination. The topic in itself gives me the chills, I hate second chances because I was all about second chance during my teenage years. Until I reached the point in which I realized I was simply being foolish.

It is human behavior, to fall in love and linger in your own thoughts about the person your developing feelings for. But once they break your heart, the hardest thing to do is move on. At the point where I am, with the experiences I've had, my struggle is giving in.

How to Enjoy the holidays!

Posted by Ana Castillo on Friday, November 29, 2013, In : Lifestyle
Throughout the years I've come across so many people that find some type of negativity towards all the holidays; and I'll admit that I was one of them at point. Such comments were; "Valentines day? Why do I need one day out of the year to remind my significant other that I love him?" or "Thanksgiving? I have every other day to be thankful!"

But like the old saying goes, the older you become the wiser. I've learned in the passed few years that you become wiser by listening instead of speaking. ...

My city is united by railways.

No care for appearance, pulling through the hours to make an extra cent

To be home, before their kids arrive from school.

Begging for money, for different reasons

But to us it all sounds the same.

We venture along these carts on the same routine.

Chances to abide the damage of the land
A disaster that nature has uncalled

There are many things we must take into consideration.
There is no such thing as Unanimous, we are separated by desires and values.
We are not perfect and we are certainly not as considerate as we should be.

We feel, things we don't actually feel
We hunger, everything that isn't important to our well being.

Nothing we consider important actually is.

Right now I don't have a cohost, but I hope by next year I will and I also hope to make my segments much more interesting. If you're in the Bristol area you can tune in an...

My Bloody Valentine

Posted by Ana Castillo on Friday, February 10, 2012, In : Blog
Put your heart inside me
I'm trying so hard to
Leave the pain behind me

Standing at the edge of the sky
Thinking time. Let it go by.
"Hey there!" You said
You asked for my name
You asked for what made me turn
Turn this way.

Guy. Guy I don't know you.
Why do seek to hurt those below you?
This is time. Time I spent.
Spent with you, not one cent left.

"Hello" I said. I asked if you'd love me.
Yes you said, you said yes.
Your primitive, your goal, the reason to wake.

"Marry me" you offered, you offered to me....

I'm Sorry

Posted by Ana Castillo on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, In : Blog
It's not the amount of times you say sorry, it's the fact that maybe you shouldn't have.
Or that as you keep saying it it becomes a prayer.
5 words don't erase the sentiments that overtook me when the pain was flushing through.
5 words now seem a lie because of all you put me through.
Say it again. And again. By the time you actually mean it, I won't recognize it.
So; I'm sorry. But my apology is longer than the lies underneath your bad intentions.

Color

Posted by Ana Castillo on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, In : Blog

Here's my observation:

I wake up

My skin is brown.

I work out,

Shower, get a massage.

Almost drown,

Almost Choke.

Heal.

Still brown.

I have color.

Here's my argument:

I’m not only brown, I’m beautiful.

Dark and beautiful.

Like chocolate, caramel and cinnamon.

Color!

But, there are people

who think it isn't.

"She's dark!"

Gasp!

So because I'm dark

I'm ghetto

I will steal your money

Take Your purse without a gun

Talk without manners

Curse after every word

My Confessions

Posted by Ana Castillo on Friday, December 9, 2011, In : Blog
Square one
Always torn between two feelings.
This is why I cannot love.
There are people who understand it,
And then there's those who just ignore.

If you can't understand where I come from
Then you won't understand who I am.
If you can't accept how I feel
Then maybe I'm not what you feel.

In life we are fascinated, obligated and underestimated .
I'm all of the above. Square two:
I say what I feel when I feel that is wrong.
I say who I love when I don't love at all.

It never makes sense. None of it makes ...

"He's Just another picture to burn"- Taylor Swift.

And when I'm gone
who will you turn to?
When I'm gone, far ahead.

When the river has flushed away all my tears
When I no longer seek a hero in a man
Where will you be?

If I crawl under your attitude
Becoming part of your being
What will you do?

Am I far ahead by saying.
That I see that your okay.
That although I'm not around
You seem to strive in success!
How should I take that?

If it is not me that you loved
But the one you said I love you to

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure Domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the Blessing of Liberty to ourselves and our prosperity, do ordain and establish this constitution for the United states of America.

This is what the Preamble for our constitution says
We are now in the 21st Century, in a more diverse society.

It's not normal to go on having great things happen to you
Sometimes in the left field you have a load of happiness
But then in the right you find the people that envy it.

How can you possibly contain yourself when your always being tackled?
Is this the test? Now I have to respond by... how?

This is the time when Isolation and segregation are my best friends
When ignorant people do the impossible to ignore my demands for silence

There is absolutely now way to understand why any women would stay with a man that mistreats or demeanors her.
Before any women can love a men, she must first love herself.
Otherwise she will be miserable. Two wrongs don't make a right, that only happens in math.

You see, a women's confidence starts out high.
Through the passage of time, as she becomes older, there are aspects in life that she may not be able to handle.
An example of this is bullying. I was bullied from the age of 9 when I moved t...

Go Back to Your country

Posted by Ana Castillo on Monday, September 12, 2011, In : Blog
I've heard it many times
Heard it when I moved to America a month after the towers fell
When I entered middle school, High school and now college.
The phrase is intended to be a joke, but why is this humorous?

I mean whose land is this anyway?
It was discovered by accident by Christopher Columbus
Shouldn't the Native Americans be saying this to me?

I walk the soil of this land like everyone else
I serve the community, and I continue to educate myself
So why is such a joke used towards me, better yet,...

There are so many options

Yet. We want it all...

Sitting there, hopelessly.
Then waiter comes

You must be sitting there, undecided.
As he bites his anger through his teeth.
Not necessarily what he went to school for
But it's what keeps him alive, For now.

Minutes pass, he comes back, and your still not ready.

What stands behind vows?
what makes this such a crave?
Is it the transcending memories
That quarrel up within the days?

Two who start separate at the beginning of life
Through that long walk for the unity,
The years pass them by.

Each memory, each defeat
But it took all that to just meet
And stay here with this person.

The end of a journey, but the start of an adventure
To feel free, a be loved
To feel respected and appreciated but never hated.

That's love for some, but a burden for others.

When two were forbidden to love

You, that bathed me on days my mom couldn't to go to school

Sandra sat on the bench as the day got colder, her life seemed like it was about to reach the ground end of eternity. The past couple of days had been raining like crazy, and she was already worked up to her finals at school. Nothing was going well. And then today when her mother was off from work she had nowhere to go. No money in her pocket to use a pay phone and call her mother, and obviously no cell phone. It was already getting pretty late and the temperature was slowly dropping.

Blinding us from reality

And I remember a phone call from 4 years ago
Advice on cooking, something I rarely do
But just today, I find myself in this situation
Again, here, no advice
The memories from the first time haunt me
I can't even remember what I did
It is as though my knowledge left with she who adviced me

Road Full of Crosses

Her blemished flourished from within
My words kept her alive like a remedy
Seasons of deaths had past

Words that could not make her stop
A train came to wreck what she had
She stood up by the sides
Another nail trusted by a war
Happiness was her eagerness
But her eagerness didn't evoke what she hoped

Tears

Water drops from the top of the mountains
Sinks down from the lands to the seas
But the rain only carries it deeper

With a burn that can take on a soul
As it pours out the greens out of nature
All the water calms down a brown coal

A solution like the ones in the chemicals
chances to abide the damage of the land
A disaster that nature has uncalled
But there's always a chance to survive

Mysterious love

Posted by Ana Castillo on Thursday, July 29, 2010,

My love towards him is confusion

When I think of it

I’m lost

Lost in wonder

And imagination

Thinking of what could be

And what it isn’t

But by the end of the day

I look at him

Then at myself

Then I ask

Why do I wait?

I can tell he’s also waiting

But the chain is not yet breaking

It will take my bravery

To make it noticeable

And it will take his energy to make me powerful

But all in all

He is still my mysterious love

I surrender to the memories that crawl up on my brain
Sometimes it seems like and endless disaster
Is it possible to dream so much and get hung up in the illusion?
I swore one day, I would do things your way.

At times, I feel like I failed you.
12 years old now 18

Think. Why did I ever stop?
It stuck in my head like a squids tentacle.

I never though I would carry this for so long
It burns. It doesn't seem real. And it isn't.

But is not long before things start to change
Not necessarily something good. It's reality

The first thing you realize is that there's not enough time
You fucked up yesterday, but it'll just keep haunting you
As the days progress, more problems crawl up from behind
Caught up in a web, your tied down by the spider

As you walk on the hot sand in the beach...
That each mark that you make remains forever
Making the days longer as the sun shines above your hair

Your eyes become as pale as the strikes of the sun
Tears are invisible with the sight of water... almost impossible
Heart beats as fast a running boat.

He worked for hours and long days.
But still he had time to come and play.

On every Birthday he went to the store
And bought a cake with much love.
The food was expensive and so were the clothes.
But he still came with something small.
His kids weren't happy
Because of the war
But with his protection
They managed to go.
